CAROP Associate Member

Designed for:

Those who are associated with the industry and/or with rent to own operators, but do not themselves operate a rent to own program. Examples:

  • investors who want to stay in touch with the industry,

  • realtors who refer clients or investors to the industry or to individual operators

  • mortgage brokers who refer clients or investors to the industry or to individual operators

  • team members of member operators (lawyers, realtors, mortgage brokers, credit coaches, etc)

Process

Associate membership is a privilege granted at the discretion of CAROP. Applicants will be reviewed by the Membership Committee. The intent is not to exclude, but to ensure appropriateness of inclusion and commitment to the ideals of the Association. Associate Members, like full members, are subject to discipline and/or expulsion if they are found to have discredited CAROP or any of its members.

Commitments of Associate members

Associate Members of CAROP are expected to:

  • speak highly of/promote CAROP,

  • favour CAROP members over others when referring to rent to own programs,

  • abide by principles and policies of CAROP, whether at time of joining or as thereafter modified,

  • report members who are in breach of their commitments.

Privileges of Associate members

Associate Members will share many of the privileges of full membership:

  • a listing on the web site

  • a username and  password to access and participate in the member forum

  • inclusion on the newsletter and mailings list

  • attendance privileges at the annual Celebration and AGM

Restrictions of Associate members

While Associate members have most of the privileges of full membership, a few are withheld:

  • no voting or decision-making privileges

  • no officer privileges (director or committees)

  • while Associate Members will be encouraged to identify with CAROP, they must use the designation “Associate Member”  when doing so. Use of CAROP logos will be restricted to operator members.

Upgrading to Full membership

Associate members must upgrade to full membership when:

  • they engage in rent-to-own as an operator,

  • they engage in any third-party role between client and investor – involvement of an Associate Member must be strictly between client and operator, or between investor and operator (for any particular deal). Any third-party role between client and investor would be deemed to be acting as a rent to own operator;

  • marketing of rent-to-own to attract clients,

  • operating under a trade name that might be confused by the public as a rent to own program.

Membership fee:

The membership fee for Associate members is $150 per year (half the full membership fee which is currently set at $299/year). Renewal is annual, based on the calendar year.
